The equinox has been quietly moving
Zero degrees of Aries is the March equinox by definition, the point where the Sun crosses the celestial equator going north. Textbooks written a century ago could reasonably print 21 March for it. Since then the equinox has been sliding earlier, and for most of the current century it falls on 20 March, occasionally on the nineteenth.
The mechanism is simple arithmetic. A tropical year is close to three hundred and sixty five and a quarter days, so each year the equinox arrives about six hours later by the clock, and each leap day knocks it back roughly eighteen hours. The net effect is a slow retreat across the calendar. Follow the crossing over any single decade and it wanders through about a day and a half, which is why 21 March has drifted from being the first Aries day to being a settled one.
Clock time and birthplace are still part of the answer
The equinox is a single instant for the whole planet. When it falls at 03:00 UTC on 20 March, that identical moment is ten in the evening on the nineteenth in New York. A birth recorded at eleven at night in Chicago on 19 March may already be Aries, while a birth at the same clock reading in Rome is not.
Any answer built only from a calendar day is therefore missing two thirds of its inputs. No one is half Pisces and half Aries
The Pisces Aries cusp is described in more places than almost any other, partly because it sits at the start of the zodiac. It still is not a real thing. The Sun occupies one ecliptic longitude at any moment, and either that figure is under three hundred and sixty degrees or it has passed zero. There is no interval in which both apply, however close to the crossing you were born.
The word is best read as a label for uncertainty. It is what people write when they have your date but not your year, hour or place, and covering both signs is safer than choosing one. Once those details exist, the label has nothing left to describe.
What the two signs actually differ on
Pisces is mutable water, ruled by Jupiter in the older scheme and Neptune in the modern one, and is read as receptive, diffuse and slow to draw a line. Aries is cardinal fire ruled by Mars, read as direct, initiating and quick to act. They share neither element nor modality, and mutable to cardinal is the sharpest kind of change in the sequence, from a sign that dissolves structures to one that starts them. The end of the zodiac meeting its beginning is genuinely a hard edge.

A Sun at the last degree of Pisces and one at the first degree of Aries are hours apart and otherwise almost identical charts.
