The literature is consistent about the tone and vague about the content, which is a fair reflection of what people report. A Jupiter return coincides with an expansive period more often than not, and what expands is decided by the rest of the chart rather than by Jupiter.

The counterpoint worth stating: Jupiter enlarges without discriminating. Overreach, overcommitment and overspending are Jupiter phenomena as much as opportunity is, and the returns people describe as difficult are almost always about taking on too much.

The house is the reading

The return brings Jupiter back to a specific place in your chart, and that place decides what the period is about. Jupiter in the second house returns to earnings and resources; Jupiter in the ninth to study, distance and belief.

The sign matters much less, since Jupiter spends about a year in each and everyone born in that window shares it. The house is yours and needs a birth time.

Where the returns fall

The overlaps are worth noting. Several major cycles land within a few years of each other in the late fifties, which makes attributing any particular experience to Jupiter alone difficult.

Against the Saturn return

The two are usually mentioned together and describe opposite mechanisms. Saturn returns test whether a structure will hold; Jupiter returns test whether you can handle more.

Treated as a period worth arranging some ambition into, it is useful. Treated as a guarantee that something good is coming, it disappoints reliably.
